Основное отличие от оригинального релиза заключается во встроенном CIM провайдере.

• IMLRecordLog Provider - Integrated Management Log (IML) summary and entries
• Smart Array Providers - Smart Array controller, external storage enclosure, internal drive cage, data and spare drive and logical volume information.
• Networking Providers - Ethernet ports, statistics, port link status, IP and MAC addresses.
• PCI Providers - PCI device, adapter card and slot information.
• Sensor Providers - Temperature sensors information (for CPU, chassis, memory), temperature sensors threshold values and current readings.
• CPU Providers - Processor and processor cache
• Memory Providers - Memory controllers and DIMMs
• Fan Providers - Server Fans and current speeds
• Power Supply Providers - Server Power Supplies and current power utilization

После объявления о выпуске новой версии vSphere'ы, блогосфера забурлила. Самой обсуждаемой новостью стало изменение политики лицензирования. Вложу и я свои два цента в копилку: если ваша организация находится на продвинутой стадии подписания ELA с фирмой VMware, то до 22 августа у вас есть возможность подписать соглашение на старых условиях, т.е. без ограничения на vRAM. Почему до 22 августа? Потому как именно тогда станет доступна для скачивания vSphere 5. Ну а почему процесс подписания должен быть на продвинутой стадии, так это из-за того, что такие вещи с бухты барахты не делаются. Мы, например, этим делом в ноябре прошлого года заниматься начали.

Теперь про новость с другого поля. Компания Symantec объявила о выпуске новой версии Symantec Endpoint Protection. Она теперь значится под номером 12.1. В ней появилась поддержка виртуальных сред. Небольшая цитата из ихнего pdf'a:

Support for virtual environments

Enhanced to help protect your virtual infrastructure, Symantec Endpoint Protection includes the following new features:

■ The Shared Insight Cache Server lets clients share scan results so that identical files only need to be scanned once across all the client computers. Shared Insight Cache can reduce the effect of full scans by up to 80%.
■ The Virtual Image Exclusion tool reduces the effect of scanning every single file in a trusted base image. Instead of continually scanning system files for viruses, the Virtual Image Exclusion tool lets you white list files from your baseline image on virtual machines.
■ Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager uses hypervisor detection to automatically detect which clients run on a virtual platform. You can create policies for groups of clients on virtual platforms.
■ The Symantec offline image scanner can scan offline VMware .vmdk files to ensure that there are no threats in the image.

vSphere 5 - Memory limit?

Злые люди нашептали, что в следующем релизе вСферы будет изменена модель лицензирования: в дополнение  к существующему лимиту на количество ядер на один CPU,будет введено также ограничение на объем памяти на один физический процессор.  Хорошо быть монополистом :-]
